Investment at Baie-Comeau Airport - Enhancing Safety in Quebec

BAIE-COMEAU, QC, Aug. 14, 2014 /CNW/ - The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Transport, today announced the Government of Canada is investing $318,000 for the construction of a storage building at the Baie-Comeau Airport. This new building will enhance safety by protecting the de-icing materials used on airport surfaces.

Funding comes from Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

  • To date, through ACAP, the Baie-Comeau Airport has received over $2.1 million in funding for six safety projects, including today's announcement. 
  • Previous projects included the repair of concrete panels at ends of runways and on the apron, a major rehabilitation of the field electrical centre, the replacement of the runway sweeper and the purchase of a snowplow truck with de-icer spreader and self-propelled snowblower.
  • Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $631 million for 776 projects at 174 airports across the country.
