Maison Monbourquette receives $20,000 from TELUS
Intent is to break down isolation felt by bereaved youth
OUTREMONT, Aug. 12, 2014 /CNW/ - Maison Monbourquette is delighted to announce a $20,000 donation made today by the TELUS Community Board in Montreal. This funding means that we will now be able to offer services adapted to bereaved children and youth.
TELUS's donation will, more specifically, enable Maison Monbourquette to run one-on-one meetings and family sessions. The goal of these is to lessen the feelings of rebellion and aggressiveness experienced by many young people, as well as their behavioural problems, isolation and depression, while helping them overcome their difficulties with schoolwork. The process will also help build the children's and youths' hope and self-esteem as they cope with their respective family crises. Additionally, the organization hopes to form support groups in order to break down the isolation experienced by young people who often feel they are coping with their situation alone.
Since 2004, Maison Monbourquette has been working with people who have been affected by the death of a loved one. This organization offers services, including a nationwide helpline (1-888-533-3845), one-on-one meetings and family sessions, music therapy and various support groups, to the general public at no charge. In the past 10 years, Maison Monbourquette has completed more than 20,000 interventions. It was named in honour of the late Jean Monbourquette, an oblate, a psychologist, a world-renowned author and speaker, and a pioneering figure in the field of grief counselling in Canada.
The TELUS Community Boards support organizations working on projects intended to help youth. Members are drawn from the TELUS team as well as among local leaders who know their community best. TELUS has set up eleven Boards in Canada, including Montreal, Quebec City and Rimouski, which have made grants exceeding $40 million in total to support more than 3,200 projects across the country, since their inception in 2005.
