Request for proposals stage closes for Casey House redevelopment project
TORONTO, Aug. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - The request for proposals stage has now closed for six shortlisted companies to submit their bids to build and finance the Casey House redevelopment project.
The redevelopment project will provide more efficient, seamless HIV/AIDS healthcare by consolidating all programs and services under one roof. The project involves renovating an existing heritage property at 571 Jarvis St. and incorporating a new 48,000-square-foot facility that will be built at 119 Isabella St.
The new facility will accommodate:
- 14 private in-patient beds, including two respite beds
- office space for home care programs
- therapy rooms and community space for a day health program
- new spaces for administrative and support services, including the Casey House Foundation
- underground parking for 15 vehicles
The request for proposals, issued in February 2014, outlined the project's approved scope for six pre-qualified bidders to base their proposals and cost estimates. Over the next few months, the proposals will be evaluated by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Casey House. The successful bidder and cost of the project will be announced following financial close. Construction is expected to begin shortly after.
IO and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care are working with Casey House to redevelop the facility, which will remain publicly owned, controlled and accountable.
Casey House was Canada's first standalone treatment facility for people with HIV/AIDS when it opened in 1988. It is a specialty HIV/AIDS care facility that also offers community programming, including home care and outreach programs.
IO is a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario that works to deliver public benefits through partnerships with the private sector. IO delivers large, complex public infrastructure projects using a made-in-Ontario modern procurement and project management practice called Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP). Infrastructure Ontario also partners with the private sector to manage one of the largest real estate portfolios in Canada, provides municipalities and eligible public-sector clients with loans to renew public infrastructure, and leverages its private-sector expertise to advise the provincial public-sector clients on commercial transactions.
