Annual fundraiser sends B.C. kids with special needs to summer camp

VANCOUVER, Aug. 5, 2014 /CNW/ - Calling all buccaneers! On Wednesday, August 13, adults can feel like kids again when they enjoy an Adult Pirate Pak at 61 White Spot restaurants throughout British Columbia, plus several locations in Alberta. The seventh annual fundraiser gives $2.00 from the sale of every Pirate Pak to Zajac Ranch for Children, an established B.C. charity that provides kids and young adults with life-threatening illnesses and chronic disabilities a memorable summer camp experience.

"Pirate Pak Day has become an annual celebration that helps young mateys facing life-long challenges," said White Spot President Warren Erhart. "It's the perfect way for the young-at-heart to feel like a kid again, while supporting an amazing cause. We're honoured to continue our work with Zajac Ranch."

Pirate Pak Day has become an annual tradition that has already raised a total of $268,386 and sent more than 100 children to camp. White Spot Week at Zajac Ranch runs from August 18 to 22 and includes activities ranging from horseback riding and kayaking.

"Our long-standing partnership with White Spot provides a direct benefit to kids in need," says Mel Zajac, founder of Zajac Ranch for Children. "It's so rewarding to see their faces light up when they try new camp activities, which are specially tailored to kids with special needs."

Available for both dine-in and take-out on August 13 only, Adult Pirate Paks come in four options:

  • Legendary Burger – our most popular option!
  • B.C. Chicken Burger
  • Bacon Cheddar Bigger Burger
  • Provolone Veggie Burger

Legendary Burgers are proudly made with 100% fresh Canadian beef, specially baked artisan buns and premium toppings, and our B.C. Chicken Burgers feature fresh B.C. chicken breasts. Each choice is served in the nostalgic Pirate Pak boat, filled with mouth-watering treasure: fresh-cut 'endless' fries, creamy coleslaw, a soft drink, premium rich ice cream and a chocolate 'gold' coin.

PIRATE PAKS: THE 'BRASS TACK' FACTS

  • White Spot founder Nat Bailey invented the Pirate Pak to provide a fun dining experience for kids aged 10 and under.

  • With the option of substituting salad, juice, feature sundaes and shakes for classic favourites, there are more than 675 different Kids Pirate Pak combinations – including vegetarian options!

Shiver me timbers! There's merriment to be had at White Spot!
