Cook, capture and share to celebrate #OCanadaFood (CNW Group/Food Day Canada)

WINNIPEG, July 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Food Day Canada and Canola Eat Well are gearing up for a national day of culinary celebrations to pay homage to the abundance of home grown foods available in Canada. Food Day Canada will take place August 2nd this year.

Leading up to the celebration, Food Day Canada and Canola Eat Well are challenging all Canadians to prepare meals using all Canadian, home-grown and harvested ingredients.

To share inspiration, well-known Canadian chefs, cookbook authors and food bloggers will participate in a Twitter party that will showcase Canadian foods. "Posting food photos on social media is a popular trend and we want Canadians to showcase the ingredients they're using and the meals they're preparing by snapping photos and sharing them on Twitter" says Ellen Pruden, Education and Promotion Manager with Canola Eat Well.  "Cook, capture, join in on the conversation and share your food photos using the hashtag #OCanadaFood to bring attention to the celebration."

Canola Eat Well for Life is an initiative by the Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA). MCGA represents canola farmers who grow canola for oil that's used in Canada and around the world.

Food Day Canada was started by culinary activist, Anita Stewart. Anita is an expert on Canadian food, author of 14 food books and Food Laureate for the University of Guelph. In 2003 she created The World's Largest Barbecue which began in Beijing and circled the globe to Victoria, B.C. which evolved into Food Day Canada as the national presence it is today.
