Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and Coca-Cola Canada come together for street soccer tournament

TORONTO, July 11, 2014 /CNW/ - Over 100 youth athletes filled the street today as Coca-Cola Canada employees joined Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to experience soccer fever on a pop-up soccer pitch set up on Ontario Street in downtown Toronto.

"At Coca-Cola Canada, we know that when people come together in the name of sport incredible things happen," said John Guarino, President of Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada. "Today is all about celebrating sports and the importance of getting active. It's great to bring the Boys and Girls Clubs to our neighbourhood, and share a unique experience with our city as a backdrop."

The Coca-Cola Foundation donated $100,000 to create a new active, healthy living program at Boys and Girls Clubs across Ontario.  Coca-Cola Canada associates have also collected almost 1,000 new pieces of soccer equipment this summer that will be donated to local clubs in Toronto, Brampton, Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax and Montreal to encourage the youth in each community to live active and healthy lives.

The street tournament provided a great climax to the incredible soccer fever that has captivated fans of the sport around the world over the past month.
