Update: RCMP apprehends Ryan Belanger on a Canada Wide Warrant

TORONTO, July 9, 2014 /CNW/ - In December, 2013, Ryan Alexander BELANGER (28 yrs old), originally from Halifax, was charged in Toronto with 'possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance' and 'conspiracy to commit drug related offences'. This was connected to a Toronto residence that had been utilized as a cocaine production facility which caught on fire. A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for BELANGER. See previous news release for further details.

In the afternoon of July 4, 2014, RCMP officers from the Serious Organized Crime team in Bowmanville, Ontario tracked BELANGER to a condo unit in Mississauga. BELANGER attempted to escape authorities by scaling a 17th floor balcony and entering an adjacent unit before being arrested by the police. The RCMP also arrested a female with 'obstruction' and being an 'accessory after the fact' for her involvement with the fugitive.

BELANGER has been charged with the following offences:

  1. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  2. Conspiracy, contrary to section 465(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).
  3. Breaking and Entering, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC.
  4. Obstructing a peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC.

"The success in the dismantling of this criminal group was a result of collaboration between the RCMP in Ontario and Nova Scotia, in the pursuit of stemming the flow of illicit drugs on Canadian streets," said Inspector Kevin Jackson (Officer in Charge of the RCMP's Toronto East Detachment - Bowmanville).

BELANGER is currently in custody and is scheduled to next appear on July 16th, 2014 at Old City Hall in Toronto, Ontario.
