Nova Scotia Week kicks off July 3rd at PEI 2014 Celebration Zone

CHARLOTTETOWN, June 23, 2014 /CNW/ - The PEI 2014 Celebration Zone will host the Province of Nova Scotia, a partner of the PEI 2014 celebrations, during Nova Scotia Week July 2nd to 6thNova Scotia's vibrant culture and lively performing arts community will be showcased throughout the week at the free, family-friendly Celebration Zone.  The week will include performances by fiddling sensation, Natalie MacMaster, and Cape Breton music icons, The Barra MacNeils on July 4th

"Nova Scotia's musical talent covers a wide range and has something to suit everyone's taste," said Nova Scotia's Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage Tony Ince. "We're proud that our artists are part of the celebration on Prince Edward Island this summer."

Nova Scotia Week will also include performances by spectacular multi-cultural music, rhythm and dance production, DRUM; Juno Award-winning folk artist, Old Man Luedeke; iconic Cape Breton choir, The Men of the Deeps; the critically acclaimed Kevin Fox Trio; children's entertainers, The Little Ditties; Gordie Sampson's Song Camp featuring singer-songwriters Dylan Guthro, Dana Beeler, Laura Roy, Carleton Stone, Breagh MacKinnon, Dave Sampson, Kyle Mischiek, and Jenny MacDonald; singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Dan MacCormack; ukulele virtuoso and singer-songwriter, James Hill; and a trio of acclaimed singer-songwriters, Carmel Mikol, Kim Wempe and Keith Mullins.  See below for full schedule of events for Nova Scotia Week.

From July 1st to September 7th, historic Confederation Landing on the beautiful Charlottetown waterfront will play host to the spectacular PEI 2014 Celebration Zone. Operating 7 days a week, offering FREE family‐friendly cultural programming, the PEI 2014 Celebration Zone will be a hub of celebratory activity all summer long.

In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which led the way to the creation of Canada. PEI 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the Sesquicentennial celebrations. The PEI 2014 celebrations are made possible through generous support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the City of Charlottetown.  The year-long and province-wide PEI 2014 program of events will honour the past, celebrate the present and plan a bold tomorrow.
