/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Research to help adolescents and youth with mental illness/

OTTAWA, June 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Mental illness affects many Canadians, with one-in-five experiencing a mental illness in their lifetime.  However, it is young Canadians who are the most profoundly affected: 50% of mental health problems and illnesses begin between the age of 11 and 25.

The problem is that, while young people are more likely to experience mental health disorders than any other age group, they have the least access to mental health care.

In response, Dr. Alain Beaudet, President, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and Mr. J. Anthony Boeckh, Chair, Graham Boeckh Foundation will make an announcement regarding adolescent and youth mental health research.
