Honoré Mercier Bridge - Major work for seven weeks starting June 21

LONGUEUIL, QC, June 12, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to announce that half the Honoré Mercier Bridge will be closed for seven weeks from Friday, June 20, at 9:00 p.m. to Monday, August 11, at 5:00 a.m. One lane will be open per direction while work takes place.

During this period, major work will take place day and night to replace a section of the deck on the federal portion of the Honoré Mercier Bridge, as well as to replace expansion joints and bridge bearings, and to carry out paving and marking work.

Preparatory Work June 14 & 15

  • Saturday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. > Work by MTQ > one lane open towards Montréal.
  • Two lanes open in each direction outside this period.
  • Saturday 6 a.m. to Sunday 6 p.m. > Access ramp from Chateauguay towards Montreal closed.
    • Detour by the service road 138 > 132 and the access ramp from La Prairie.

Complete closures of the Honoré-Mercier Bridge towards Montreal may be needed at night before June 21 for the worksite mobilization. These closures will be announced as soon as confirmed.

Details of seven weeks hindrances on the Honoré Mercier Bridge

Speed limit will be 50 km/hr.

  • One lane open towards Montreal (width 3.3 meters).
  • One lane open towards the South Shore (width 3 meters).

  • Service road between Route 132 > 138 closed.
    • Detour by Old Malone Road.
  • Service road between Route 138 > 132 open.

  • Access ramp from Châteauguay towards Montreal closed.
    • Detour by the service road 138 > 132 and the access ramp from La Prairie.
  • Access ramp from La Prairie towards Montreal open.
  • Access ramp from Airlie Street towards the South Shore closed.
    • Expect for buses.

  • Exit towards La Prairie open.
  • Exit towards Châteauguay open.
  • Exits on Montreal shore open.

The upriver bridge (West side) will be completely closed to traffic. One lane will be open per direction on the downriver bridge (East side).

Trucks prohibited during rush hour

In order to facilitate car traffic, trucks will be prohibited according to the following schedule:

  • From 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. > towards Montreal > trucks prohibited
  • From 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. > towards the South Shore > trucks prohibited

Public transit encouraged - dedicated lane created

During this work, road users are strongly encouraged to use the various types of public transit and favour carpooling.

  • Dedicated bus lane at the bridge approaches to facilitate access.
  • Park-and-ride spots in Châteauguay: 419 spots.

CIT FROM HAUT-SAINT-LAURENT - See CIT website

  • 18 departures during the week from Candiac (See full schedule)
  • The train goes to Vendôme (33 minutes to get there) and Lucien-L'Allier (40 minutes to get there)

  • Sainte-Catherine: 849 spots
  • Candiac Station: 375 spots
  • Delson Station: 170 spots
  • Saint-Constant: 351 spots

Detours via other bridges

Traffic will be particularly heavy during this work; here are a few alternatives:

Detour via the Champlain Bridge

  • Access will be easier before 6 a.m. towards Montréal; during the summer, the Champlain Bridge has reserve capacity early in the morning
  • The Champlain Bridge will also be easier to access via the on-ramp coming from Route 132 West
  • Coming from La Prairie, Candiac, Delson, Saint-Constant or Sainte-Catherine, you can use this route (see route) to more easily reach this ramp

Detour via the A-30 Express (toll bridge)

  • To access Montreal via the A-20 or A-40 (see routes) or if heading towards Ottawa, Gatineau or Toronto
