Over 100 Canadians set to cycle 700km from Juno Beach to Vimy Ridge
Wounded Warriors Canada Inaugural Battlefield Bike Ride
TORONTO, June 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Wounded Warriors Canada is set to host its inaugural Battlefield Bike Ride. Assembling on the 5th of June as did the troops in 1944, over 100 Canadians will ready themselves for an emotional ride into Juno Beach on June 6th, commemorating the 70th anniversary of D-Day. The ride will conclude 8 days later with a special ceremony at Vimy Ridge.
The participants, comprised of serving and retired Canadian Armed Forces members and civilians from across the country, will combine cycling through the rolling French countryside with the gravitas of walking in the footsteps of Canadian troops who were there before us. What's more, the participants are embarking on this 700km ride to raise awareness and funds to support Canada's ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members and their families.
Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, "This ride is going to be an experience of a lifetime for everyone involved. We have an incredible team of Canadians who will be riding to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while raising awareness and funds to support the vital programs that help those living with the physical and emotional scars of war."

About Wounded Warriors Canada:
Wounded Warriors Canada is a non-profit organization that helps Canadian Forces members - be they full time, reservists, or retired - who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada. Through a wide range or programs and services, they help find solutions where gaps have left our soldiers in need. Currently, their primary focus is on mental health and, particularly, the staggering impact of PTSD, perpetrated by Operational Stress Injuries. Overall, however, their mandate is to help any Canadian Forces member in need of support as they transition to civilian life.
