Former Globe and Mail editor-in-chief John Stackhouse joins Munk School
TORONTO, April 16, 2014 /CNW/ - One of Canada's most accomplished journalists is joining the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs. John Stackhouse, former editor-in-chief of the Globe and Mail, will be appointed to the Munk School as Senior Fellow.
Munk School director Janice Stein announced the new appointment early this morning to students and faculty. "John's strong analysis of global issues has informed readers around the world. His passion and wide range of expertise will be an incredible asset to the Munk School and to the University."
John Stackhouse served as the editor-in-chief of The Globe and Mail from 2009-2014, and previously as editor of Report on Business. He was also the newspaper's national editor, foreign editor, correspondent at large, and from 1992 to 1999, was the development issues correspondent based in New Delhi.
His career has included interviews with world leaders and figures – Vladimir Putin, Kofi Annan, the Aga Khan, Al Gore, Alan Greenspan, Manmohan Singh, and Benazir Bhutto, and many others.
Speaking about his appointment, John Stackhouse said, "The Munk School's reputation for outstanding research and education speaks for itself. I'm thrilled to be associated with their exceptional experts, Master of Global Affairs graduate students, and students in the Global Journalism Fellowship."
Mr. Stackhouse has won five national newspaper awards, a national magazine award and an Amnesty International Award for human rights reporting. He has also worked for the Financial Times, London Free Press and The Toronto Star. Mr. Stackhouse is an accomplished author, a Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute, and holds both a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen's University, as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of Windsor.
