OTTAWA, April 8, 2014 /CNW/ - On Wednesday, April 9, 2014, high school students from across Canada, attending the Encounters with Canada's program (EWC) representing the youth of our nation, will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Canadian War Museum from 1:00 to 1:25 p.m.

Together, they will pledge not to forget this important historical moment, so that the memory of those who served and sacrificed never fades. Two participants have been selected to recite the Commitment to Remember in French and in English, while others will lay floral wreaths with veterans, also in attendance. The ceremony will end with these young Canadians placing a poppy on the wreaths to pay tribute.

Vimy: Canada's Coming of Age is one of Encounters with Canada's 14 theme weeks, launched for a fifth consecutive year, in conjunction with The Vimy Foundation. More than 100 young Canadians, aged 14 to 17, from every corner of the country, will travel to Ottawa to recognize this great achievement in Canadian history and to learn more about the significance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in establishing a true Canadian identity.

Scheduled from April 7 to 11, 2014, the Vimy week will see Encounters with Canada's participants take part in learning modules on Canada's military role in the First World War, Canadian society during that time period and the country's emergence on the world stage.

EWC participants and personnel of The Vimy Foundation will be available for on-site interviews.
