Weston Forest Products' Employee Saved By An Automated External Defibrillator From York CPR
MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 7, 2014 /CNW/ - When an emergency struck in the lunch room at Weston Forest Products, the company turned to the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), purchased from York CPR, a leading provider of the Canadian Red Cross first-aid and CPR training program. An employee had suffered a massive heart attack that, without quick action and expert attention, would have taken his life. Fortunately, Weston Forest Products had invested in an AED from York CPR and had it available in the workplace. Using the AED saved the victim's life.
"The AED is one of the best investments Weston Forest Products has ever made," says Steve Ekstein, Executive Vice President of Weston Forest Products. "The device is a life-saver and was very user-friendly. Our staff simply followed the automated instructions and we were able to save a life. Today, our employee is on the road to a full recovery. I believe without York CPR's AED it would have been a very different story."
The AED is a small, portable electronic device that analyzes a person's heart rhythm and delivers a necessary shock if it is irregular. Mitchell Tepperman, York CPR's president, states, "Without an AED, the success rate of CPR in Canada is only 2-4%." However, the results of extensive testing conducted on AEDs indicate that using an AED in conjunction with CPR can increase the likelihood of saving an individual's life during cardiac arrest by 75% or more.
