Bridgehouse Doubles Commitment to Scholarship in Third Year of Award-Winning Program

2014 Bridgehouse Scholarship Program Open to Canadian Students

TORONTO, April 1, 2014 /CNW/ - The award-winning Bridgehouse Scholarship Program (previously the Brandes Scholarship Program) kicks off its third year, awarding 10 Canadian students who demonstrate insights and investor knowledge with tuition scholarships. This year's award value has been doubled to $2,000 per student.

The annual scholarship opportunity is accessible through www.bridgehousescholarship.com and is designed to impart lifelong lessons in investment knowledge in order to help young Canadians as they move into their earning (and saving) years. The Bridgehouse Scholarship Program guides students through a quiz to discover three aspects of their money personality:

  • Are they spenders or savers?
  • Are they risk-takers or risk-avoiders?
  • How interested are they in investing?

Students will take away insights from the quiz and profiles that will arm them with important information designed to deliver greater understanding of—and success in—the world of investing.

In its inaugural year, the program won the 2012 IFIC Investor Education Award at the Morningstar Investment Awards. This award is given to an investment fund manager, dealer or integrated firm that has produced an exceptional financial educational initiative designed for investors, either directly or through their advisors.

Speaking to the value of the award, 2013 winner Chinmaya, a 21-year-old from Ontario, says, "the most important thing I have learned from the quiz is that, although being a risk avoider can save me from falling into the biggest investment pits, I have to be able to take some risks in order to gain success in the financial sector of life."

Highlights of the 2014 Bridgehouse Scholarship Program:

  • Call for submissions (in English and French): April 1, 2014
  • Close of submissions: June 30, 2014
  • Open to all Canadian students 16–22  years of age
  • This year's questions were developed by author and financial guru Lesley Scorgie
  • Students are asked to discover their money personality by completing a short quiz and write a 400- to 500-word essay explaining what they learned about their inner financial self
  • 10 winning essays will be selected, and each winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship towards tuition
  • Winners will be announced on August 15, 2014, after judging by a panel of qualified financial professionals

About the Bridgehouse Scholarship Program:
