Congratulations Toronto! Electricity consumption dropped approximately 6 per cent during Earth Hour
TORONTO, March 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro") is pleased to report that the city dropped 178 megawatts (MW) of electricity during Earth Hour. This is equivalent to removing about 80,100 homes off of Toronto's electricity grid.
The average electricity demand at 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays in March is approximately 3,034 MW. During Earth Hour, the average demand dropped by approximately six per cent. This is lower than Earth Hour results in 2013 when Torontonians collectively dropped seven per cent from the grid.
