C4ST extends its reach to francophones across Canada with new Quebec board members
OTTAWA, March 17, 2014 /CNW/ - Canadians for Safe Technology (C4ST) today announced that Francine Lajoie and Véronique Riopel have joined as active board members and french spokespersons. As co-founders of Quebec-based Laval Refuse (2012), then Laval/Laurentides Refuse (2013); Ms. Lajoie and Ms. Riopel have recently earned an important victory in the fight for a healthy local environment.
On March 10, 2014, the City of Laval, Quebec took an important step forward when council adopted a resolution announcing a series of requests aimed at strengthening safety measures related to smart meters. The issue was first raised by Ms. Lajoie and Ms. Riopel.
"The Laval resolution is a direct result of the leadership of Francine and Véronique as co-founders of a citizen's group fighting against the installation of smart meters in Quebec," said Frank Clegg, CEO, C4ST. "This success demonstrates the depth of experience and knowledge that Francine and Véronique bring to the C4ST national leadership team as we reach out to francophones in Quebec and the rest of Canada to join us in reducing the levels of unsafe wireless radiation."
The City of Laval, the third largest city in Quebec, joins Toronto, Mississauga, Thorold, Guelph and Oakville, Ontario by taking a stronger stand to protect citizens against wireless sources of radiation.
Effective immediately, Ms. Lajoie and Ms. Riopel will officially represent C4ST as part of the national leadership team and will no longer therefore be affiliated with Laval Refuse or Laval/Laurentides Refuse.
C4ST is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based coalition of parents, citizens and experts whose mission is to educate and inform Canadians and their policy makers about the dangers of the exposures to unsafe levels of radiation from technology and to work with all levels of government to create healthier communities for children and families from coast to coast.
