LONGUEUIL, QC, March 12, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The construction of a prestigious building with a distinctive and bright architectural style began today. It will be completed in 2016 and will accommodate over 330 SSQ Financial Group employees. To symbolize the official start of the project, SSQ Financial Group's Chief Executive Officer René Hamel accompanied by Longueuil Mayor Caroline St-Hilaire officially broke ground to mark the start of the construction of SSQ Tower.

This $65 million dollar investment is SSQ Financial Group's first major project in the Greater Montreal area. The 12-storey, 250,000 sq. ft. building will be strategically located just off the Island of Montreal, close to a metro station and a regional intermodal bus terminal. SSQ Tower will offer commercial space on the ground floor and quality office space on the other floors.

"By bringing all our employees currently located throughout the metropolitan area together in one place, we will ensure that SSQ Financial Group's growing needs in office space are met, and we will encourage synergy between our various business lines," said René Hamel. "This decision is also in keeping with our goal to anchor our presence in Canada's largest business centres, to affirm our leadership and to remain owners of the buildings our employees work in."

SSQ is extremely concerned with the environmental impact of its realty projects and is a leader in green building construction. With SSQ Tower, our goal is nothing less than obtaining LEED certification. This objective is perfectly compatible with the city of Longueuil's vision of sustainable development for this thriving economic hub.

"The revitalization of Place Charles-Le Moyne is one of the city's four main structuring projects. The arrival of SSQ Financial Group in this sector full of potential, the architectural signature of SSQ Tower and its green design will contribute to the vitality of this major artery," said Caroline St-Hilaire, Mayor of Longueuil.
