Arts and Culture in the Columbia Valley Receive Federal Boost
Member of Parliament David Wilks announces funding for the Golden District Arts Council
GOLDEN, BC, Feb. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada has provided $20,000 in multi-year funding through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund to enable the Golden District Arts Council to present its performing arts series.
David Wilks, Member of Parliament (Kootenay-Columbia), announced this continued support today in Golden, on behalf of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Minister Shelly Glover. The funding is for two fiscal years: $10,000 in 2014-2015 and $10,000 in 2015-2016.
These events will provide residents and visitors with access to live performances by emerging and established artists in a variety of disciplines from British Columbia and across Canada.
- Since 2004, the Golden District Arts Council has presented arts and cultural activities under the banner Kicking Horse Culture.
- The Council's mandate is to support, develop and present arts and cultural programming, as well as arts education opportunities in the community of Golden.
- The performing arts series will be presented at the Civic Centre, which was originally built by volunteers in 1948 and recently renovated and restored in 2010.
