Lafarge Canada Inc. Acquires ready-mix plants from James Dick Construction Ltd.

James Dick Concrete to continue operating as a separate brand in Ontario

TORONTO, Jan. 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Lafarge Canada Inc., Canada's largest provider of solutions to the construction and development industry, today announced it has completed the acquisition of eight ready-mix manufacturing plants from James Dick Construction Limited. The move is designed to strengthen Lafarge's ready mix concrete business in Ontario.

"We're delighted to welcome the 30 employees from James Dick into the Lafarge family, who will continue to serve as plant, administrative, and sales professionals and allow us to continue building better cities and communities with our partners in Ontario," said Bob Cartmel, President and CEO, Lafarge Canada Inc. (Eastern Canada). "James Dick Concrete has a proud history of quality and service to customers, and a strong commitment to the local community."

The newly acquired ready mix concrete plants will operate as a separate brand within Lafarge Canada Inc. This brand will have separate leadership, and will operate under the James Dick Concrete name. "James Dick Concrete will continue to operate in a manner that respects their strong culture and heritage," said Cartmel.

"We're fully committed to maintaining the James Dick brand in the marketplace and operating to the same high standards that they've always had," added Cartmel.

The newly acquired plants are located in the following communities throughout Ontario: Alliston, Bolton, Brampton, Caledon, Hamilton, Oshawa, and Scarborough. James Dick Concrete will continue to focus on the markets and projects they have traditionally supplied. "Our ready mix customers and suppliers in these communities will see no change in the way they conduct their business with James Dick Concrete," said Cartmel.

In addition, a separate agreement has been made between Lafarge Canada Inc. and Canada Cartage Systems for services related to the delivery of ready mix concrete from the newly acquired plants.
