By-Elections for Niagara Falls and Thornhill Have Been Called
TORONTO, Jan. 15, 2014 /CNW/ - Ontario's Chief Electoral Officer Greg Essensa confirmed that the writs have been issued for the February 13, 2014 by-elections in the Electoral Districts of Niagara Falls and Thornhill.
Canadian citizens who reside in the Electoral Districts of Niagara Falls and Thornhill and will be 18 years of age or older on election day, are eligible to vote. Visit wemakevotingeasy.ca for information on the local returning offices.
The nomination period for candidates begins Thursday, January 23 and ends Thursday, January 30, at 2 p.m. (ET).
Electors can vote at an advance poll between February 1 and February 7. Electors can vote in advance using assistive voting technology between February 2 and February 12 at the local returning office.
Electors can also vote by mail or in person at the local returning office by Special Ballot. Electors must apply for their Special ballot kit no later than 6:00 p.m. (ET) on February 7. Applications are available at wemakevotingeasy.ca, by phone or in person at the returning office.
The first blackout on political advertising begins on January 15 and ends at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on January 21. The second blackout on political advertising begins at midnight (ET) on February 11 and ends at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on February 13. The prohibition on publishing surveys begins at midnight (ET) on February 12 and ends at 9 p.m. (ET) on February 13.
