PowerStream working to restore power throughout service territory

Approximately 70,800 customers in York Region affected by ice storm

VAUGHAN, ON, Dec. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - PowerStream is making progress and is currently working to restore power to approximately 70,800 customers who remain without power in York Region due to adverse weather conditions, including freezing rain, which occurred throughout Saturday and into early Sunday morning. Freezing rain, partnered with wind, has allowed for ice accumulation which has resulted in fallen trees on power lines as well as downed power lines throughout PowerStream's service territory.

PowerStream currently anticipates outages to be restored within the next 48 hours but this is dependent on future weather conditions. PowerStream is finding that as they repair lines they encounter further issues. As the winds pick up through the afternoon they anticipate further issues throughout the evening tonight and into tomorrow.

Additional PowerStream Operations staff has been called in and are working safely to restore power in Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Aurora. Customers are encouraged to remain patient and check on relatives and neighbours who may require assistance.

Due to high traffic volumes, PowerStream is currently experiencing issues with its corporate website. Customers are strongly encouraged to call 1-877-777-3810 or follow PowerStream on Twitter at @PowerStreamNews for the latest updates regarding power restoration. In the event of an emergency or downed power lines please call 911.
