Frank Cowan Company Launches Complimentary Municipal Weather Monitoring Portal to Help Meet Minimum Maintenance Standards

PRINCETON, ON, Dec. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Frank Cowan Company has added a weather portal called Snowman to the Company's Risk Management Centre of Excellence website (excellence.frankcowan.com) as a way to assist municipalities in monitoring and recording the weather and actions taken in relation to the forecast.

Snowman is being launched during the winter maintenance season when municipalities experience most of their challenges associated with adverse road conditions.

All Frank Cowan Company municipal clients already have unlimited access to the Risk Management Centre of Excellence. Once logged in, road supervisors and crews can see weather reports and check localized forecasts for conditions that may impact their area. The weather report and the users confirmed acceptance of current weather conditions are logged and recorded should they need to be recalled in a claim situation even years later.

"We incorporated Snowman into our Centre of Excellence to help our municipal clients meet the weather monitoring component as set out in the revised Ontario Minimum Maintenance Standards," states Barb Szychta, Director, Risk Management, Frank Cowan Company.

"Claim awards have increased substantially as municipalities are brought into more and more court settlements because they are perceived as having deep pockets. If a municipality is found to be even one percent negligent, they could be accountable for paying the majority of a large award under Joint and Several Liability," says Derek Sarluis, VP, Claims, Frank Cowan Company.

In addition to the new weather portal, Frank Cowan Company provides municipalities with resources such as Risk Management and Claims Management services.

"We are very involved in providing our clients with the products and services they need. For Frank Cowan Company, that means offering a lot more than just a policy," states Jeff Coleman, Industry Leader & VP, Public Entity, Frank Cowan Company.

"We are extremely pleased to be working with Frank Cowan Company to offer strategic and state-of-the-art solutions to their clients", states Paul-André Savoie, CEO of Operasoft and Baseline Telematics Inc. "We are determined to offer made-to-measure solutions to municipalities by transforming the traditional snow and ice management industry, and are doing so by offering a product in line with global trends, remaining focussed on the future and concentrating on emerging trends and technology."
