TORONTO, Dec. 17, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) welcomes five seasoned communications professionals to the Society's College of Fellows. The newly appointed Fellows will be honoured for their professional achievement at the annual College of Fellows Luncheon during the upcoming Canadian Public Relations Conference, ASCEND 2014, May 25-27 in Banff, AB. The 2014 Fellows are:

  • Jane Allison APR, FCPRS - Hamilton, ON
  • Eric Bergman APR, ABC, MC, FCPRS - Toronto, ON
  • Jamie Leong-Huxley MBA, APR, FCPRS, CAAP - Calgary, AB
  • Kathy Malley APR, FCPRS - Moncton, N.B.
  • Carla Shore APR, FCPRS - Vancouver, B.C.

"It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the CPRS community, to welcome the five newest Fellows to the CPRS College of Fellows," said Richard Truscott, APR, National President, CPRS. "This year's inductees have joined a growing number of distinguished professionals in the Canadian public relations and communications industry. I congratulate each Fellow on this professional accomplishment."

Since 2000, the College of Fellows has recognized CPRS members who are proven leaders in their communities and the public relations and communications profession. There are currently 92 members in the College of Fellows, including this year's inductees, and 20 Honorary Fellows.

"The members appointed this year exemplify the highest standards of the profession, which we ask of all Fellows. They have demonstrated a strong commitment to the profession as well as to the Canadian Public Relations Society," added Derrick Pieters APR, FCPRS, LM, Presiding Officer, CPRS College of Fellows. "I look forward to personally congratulating each new Fellow at the formal induction ceremony during the College of Fellows Luncheon this May."

In order to attain Fellowship status with CPRS, a public relations professional must be a member with the Society for at least 10 years, have a minimum of 20 years of experience within the profession, and be accredited in public relations (APR). Successful College of Fellows candidates must clearly demonstrate a significant contribution to the public relations profession or to the CPRS community.
