Emergency appeal for the Philippines - The LÉGER Foundation and Global Medic - providing drinking water to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan

MONTREAL, Dec. 14, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Following the damage caused by Typhoon Haiyan, thousands of Filipino families are still homeless today, with no access to clean drinking water. "Our team of volunteers on the ground has already distributed water to over 10,000 people, but it's still far from being enough! Now, we must give the population the equipment and training they need to filter water themselves and increase the number of people who have access to this vital resource", explains Norman MacIsaac, Executive Director of the LÉGER Foundation.

On Saturday December 14, with the help of its volunteer network and partner agency Global Medic, the LÉGER Foundation is organizing a bucket-drilling day to prepare 1,000 water filters. Each of these filters will provide drinking water to a Filipino family for at least one year.

In the face of the Filipino people's urgent needs, Mr. MacIsaac is making a heartfelt appeal to the public: "We need volunteers to help prepare the filters, and we need your generosity to ensure this operation will be a success. On behalf of the Filipino people, I thank you in advance for your help!" Each $50 donation made to the LÉGER Foundation will provide a whole family with clean drinking water for one year. In this season of abundance, give the most wonderful of all gifts: the gift of health, the gift of life.
