Standard Life renews its support for the OSM Standard Life Competition
MONTREAL, Dec. 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal is proud to make the announcement today that Standard Life is renewing its support for the prestigious OSM Standard Life Competition for the next five years.
"We're delighted to be able to count on the backing of Standard Life in the evolution of young musicians who are Canadian hopes," said Pierre Goulet, President of the OSM Standard Life Competition. "That support makes it possible each year for our rising generation to continue to advance while offering a crucial stepping stone on the road to the national and international stages."
"Standard Life seeks to invest in future generations so that they can realize their full potential," stated Charles Guay, president and chief executive officer of Standard Life in Canada. "We're very pleased today to confirm that we intend to carry on supporting the development of young Canadian musicians by way of the OSM Standard Life Competition."
The OSM Standard Life Competition helps the OSM fulfill its educational mission, which has been a key element in the Orchestra's life since its founding. The Competition came into being in 1940 on the initiative of Wilfrid Pelletier, the first music director of the OSM. Over the years, close to 300 prize-winners have made a name for themselves at this performance competition, including a good number of Canadian artists now enjoying international careers.
Standard Life has been the title sponsor of the competition for over 20 years. The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and the Conseil des arts de Montréal recognized that long-standing commitment by presenting the firm with the 2011 Prix Arts-Affaires de Montréal in the Large Enterprise category.
In Canada, Standard Life provides long-term savings, investment and insurance solutions to over 1.4 million Canadians, including group-retirement and insurance-plan members. Standard Life Financial Inc. is the largest operation, outside the United Kingdom, of Standard Life plc, its parent company headquartered in Scotland.
