MONTREAL, Sept. 25, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Development and Peace invites you to the launch of its new campaign A Voice for Justice that is calling on the Government of Canada to establish an independent ombudsman for the Canadian extractive sector that can investigate complaints brought by communities overseas where companies operate.
The press conference will feature special guests:
- Most Reverend Razanakolona, Archbishop of Antananarivo in Madagascar
- Most Reverend Djomolola, Bishop of Tshumbe and President of the Episcopal Conference of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Most Reverend Barreto, Archbishop of Huancayo in Peru and member of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace at the Vatican
- Most Reverend Bantolo, Bishop of Masbate in the Philippines
Each will speak briefly on the impacts of Canadian mining in their respective countries. Also present will be Most Reverend Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The press conference will be followed by a question period and the vernissage of a photo exhibit of mine-affected communities in Honduras, Madagascar, the Philippines and Peru.
A light breakfast will be served.
