McKesson Canada redesigns its Ontario distribution network

MONTREAL, July 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - McKesson Canada announced today that it is bringing important changes to its Ontario distribution network to better serve its customers and their evolving needs, and position itself for future growth. Over the coming year, McKesson Canada will be consolidating its operations from five existing Ontario facilities to four distribution centres located in Brampton, Trenton, Ottawa and Chatham.

As a part of this redesign, a new state of the art distribution centre is being built in Trenton (Quinte West). This new facility will allow McKesson to increase capacity to better serve its customers and achieve higher operational efficiencies.

"As market conditions and regulatory requirements continue to shape the Canadian health care landscape, we felt that optimizing our network and investing significantly in our infrastructure was the right decision for McKesson Canada. This will allow us to increase our capacity, improve our efficiency and ensure we are appropriately positioned to adapt to a transforming environment," explained Nick Loporcaro, President of McKesson Canada.

As a result of this redesign, the Mississauga distribution centre will be closing in the spring of 2014. This will lead to a total of approximately 190 job losses. Additional job losses are also expected to occur at the Brampton, Chatham and Ottawa distribution centres in the coming months.

"This is a challenging day for the McKesson Canada family. We understand that these business decisions have a high impact on the personal and professional lives of our employees. We are committed to providing them with the best available care throughout the transition," indicated Nick Loporcaro.

Members of McKesson Canada's management team met with all of the affected Ontario employees earlier this afternoon in order to inform them of this decision and explain the support that they will receive during the course of the transition. The company is committed to treating each impacted employee with great consideration, in accordance with its ICARE shared values and ensuring the utmost respect and fairness, and will work closely with them throughout this transition.
