(CNW Group/La Capitale Financial Group Inc.)QUEBEC CITY, March 20, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - In the presence of Premier Pauline Marois, Finance and Economy Minister Nicolas Marceau, and Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume, René Rouleau, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of La Capitale Financial Group, is pleased to officially inaugurate La Capitale's new head office, which was erected at the heart of Parliament Hill.
Adjacent to Complex G and built between D'Artigny and De la Chevrotière streets, the new La Capitale building is located at 625 Saint-Amable Street in Quebec City. Its 250,000 square footage is spread out over 10 floors of living space and a five-level parking deck.
A beacon in the city
The ultramodern La Capitale building, considered to be a real
architectural treasure, casts a glow over Parliament Hill and
surrounding Old Quebec. The building's designer, architect Dan Hanganu,
wanted it to stand as a beacon in the urban landscape of our beautiful
capital city, with its transparent glass, solid stone construction and
sparkling potential of the crystal panels on the upper floors. The
1,490 staff members who have moved in are the first to enjoy the
benefits of this new building.
Prestigious and environmentally friendly
More than 45 criteria were respected during construction to earn LEED® Gold certification. For example, a significant proportion of the
building materials came from the Quebec City area. The stone used for
the curtain walls came from Saint-Marc-des-Carrières, a town in the
Portneuf region, the source of the stone used to cover the Parliament
building in Quebec City. La Capitale's new head office will be the
second building in Quebec City to receive LEED® Gold certification, probably toward the end of 2013, and the third
building in La Capitale's Canadian real estate portfolio to do so.
A brief history
More than 50 years ago, in 1962, La Mutuelle des employés civils, which
became La Mutuelle des Fonctionnaires du Québec in 1965 and
subsequently La Capitale around the beginning of this century,
constructed its first head office on Saint-Amable Street. The Mutual
opened its doors on Parliament Hill, near the workplace of its Mutual
members and original client base, Quebec's administration and public
service employees. "We wanted to stay on Parliament Hill, near the
place where our company grew and evolved, near our Mutual members,"
said René Rouleau.
