Public consultation on the Plan de développement urbain, économique et social (PDUES) for the Marconi-Alexandra, Atlantic, Beaumont and De Castelnau areas
MONTREAL, March 10, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - This week marks the beginning of the public consultation by the Office de consultation publique de Montréal on the Plan de développement urbain, économique et social (PDUES) for the Marconi-Alexandra, Atlantic, Beaumont and De Castelnau areas.
The first information session to present the Plan will be held on Monday, March 11, 7:00 p.m., at the Centre William-Hingston, located at 419 Saint-Roch Street (Parc Metro Station), and the second on Wednesday, March 13, again at 7:00 p.m., at the Espace Réunion, located at 6600 Hutchison Street. At these sessions, citizens will have the opportunity to ask any questions they like regarding the program.
In the second part of the consultation, to be held on Monday, April 8, 7:00 p.m., at the Espace Réunion, and Wednesday, April 10, 7:00 p.m., at the Centre William-Hingston, citizens will be invited to express their opinions and make recommendations on the project. To do so, citizens and organizations must advise the OCPM of their intention to present an opinion by calling Gilles Vézina, at 514 872-8510, before April 4.
The PDUES proposes a revitalization strategy for the areas along the Canadian Pacific (CP) railway tracks. The project requires several amendments to the Montréal Master Plan, involving the development framework, such as land-use designation, heights and densities, as well as urban design principles.
In order to maximize the positive spinoffs of the conversion project for the Outremont rail yards by the Université de Montréal, adopted in 2011, Montréal has drawn up a Plan de développement urbain, économique et social for the surrounding areas.
The PDUES focuses on four development goals:
- To confirm the area's economic vocation;
- To support the consolidation of mixed neighbourhood comprising a variety of housing types;
- To contribute to the quality of the urban landscape and improve the living environment;
- To open up the neighbourhoods and improve mobility within the territory.
As a planning tool, the PDUES is the reference document that will guide the interventions of the City and its partners in that territory over the next 10 to 20 years.
