Appointment to the Halifax Port Authority

OTTAWA, Feb. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Lantz Siteman to the Halifax Port Authority for a three-year term.

"I am pleased to appoint Mr. Siteman to the board of directors of the Halifax Port Authority," said Minister Lebel. "His strong management skills and business insight will be valuable to the authority."

Mr. Siteman was Canada Trust Company's district vice president and regional manager for Atlantic Canada until he retired in 2001. There he managed 18 branches in the region with a total staff of 320 people. As part of the executive team, he contributed to the planning and merger of two national companies in the 1980's, coordinating operations in the Atlantic Provinces to help bring the project to fruition.

Mr. Siteman studied business law, business psychology and financial management at Dalhousie University and St. Mary's University. He has served on a range of boards as well as being involved in community ventures since his retirement. These include currently serving on the board of the Certified General Accountants Association of Nova Scotia and previously as vice chair of the Association for the Eastern Shore Industrial Development Corporation, committee chair of the United Way of Halifax and director of the Eastern Shore Tourist Association.

The Halifax Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Halifax under the Canada Marine Act. Eighteen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act and are of strategic significance to Canada's trade. Their effective operation contributes to Canada's global competitiveness as a trading nation.
