Retirees Now Able To Build Nest Egg Using Energy In And Around Their Own Home
New Technologies Allow An Unprecedented ROI of 21%
TORONTO, Feb. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - While some retirees and retirees-to-be continue to worry about how they will pay for their years past 65, others are finding an extra nest egg in the most unusual place: their home! (And no, this isn't about reverse mortgages or any "equity in your home" deal.) In fact, thanks to a generous program offered by the provincial government and the latest technology, many home owners are enjoying heating and cooling systems that give $5 worth of benefits from $1 of energy purchased.
Jack and Elly Van den Corput recently retired to a newly purchased home just outside of Cambridge Ontario. Last week they were the first in Ontario to install Energy Star's 2012's - most efficient rated product, the 'variable capacity' geothermal technology recently made available for home heating, cooling and hot water. The 7 Series from Waterfurnace International Inc. has a 41 EER and 5.3 COP ratings. So for every $1.00 of electricity purchased the geothermal system produces an incredible $5.30 worth of heat energy. Savings over electricity, propane and oil are up to 70%.
"This technology is going to be very popular with those looking to maximize their investments and returning 18-21% in their golden years." states Chad Hayter of The Hayter Group. "The 30 plus years of our proven geothermal installations, combined with the variable capacity unit is really breaking the efficiency barrier, the bonus is it's the most environmentally conscious way to heat and cool any space."
The Van den Corputs wanted to enjoy a long retirement with the most energy efficient house and lowest operating costs possible, so they also scheduled the Hayter Group to have a 10kw solar micro FIT installation to be installed later this winter on their roof. The micro FIT system allows them to generate income from the Ontario Power Authority at a government-guaranteed rate of 54.9 cents per kilowatt of electricity they produce via the solar panels. "They get to sit back and let the cheques come in every month," commented Chad Hayter, of the Hayter Group. "This contract will be good for 20 years, after the contact expires, they still own the panels, the warranty continues and they can choose to generate the electricity themselves to help power their home including their already low cost geothermal system."
"We're happy to be the 'one stop shop' for couples like the Van den Corputs" explained Hayter. "It's a good feeling knowing we are trusted to provide good advice and complete all the paperwork, installation and service, on so many homes. We are simply helping our customers to maximize their investments using their own home, with fairly predictable rates of return on a consistent basis."
