"Floors for Food" Program Will Help Feed Ottawa Families

OTTAWA, Jan. 29, 2013 /CNW/ - An Ontario hardwood flooring manufacturer is celebrating the grand opening of its new Ottawa showroom with the launch of its "Floors for Food" program. For each floor sold at the new location before the end of February, the family-owned company will provide the Ottawa Food Bank with enough food to feed a family of four for a week.

"As a small family business, we really appreciate the support of the local community," says Greg Gaylord, sales manager at Gaylord Hardwood Flooring. "We want to give back in any way we can. Through this campaign we hope to lend a helping hand to some families in need in the Ottawa area."

Gaylord pledged to support the Ottawa Food Bank after meeting its executive director, Peter Tilley. The two men discussed the fact that issues of hunger in the community sometimes don't get the attention they need.

"At this time of year, the Ottawa Food Bank likes to remind its supporters that hunger isn't seasonal - it doesn't end with the holidays," says Tilley. "In fact, we expect that this cold Canadian winter will present many challenges for those who struggle to make ends meet. Please support this initiative of our friends over at Gaylord Hardwood Flooring."

The Ottawa Food Bank serves an average of 48,000 people per month, 37 percent of whom are children. "Hunger is something you can't see," says Gaylord. "If a kid has to go to school hungry, it might not be obvious to anyone. I've never gone hungry in my life and it's something I just can't imagine. That's why we need to help out."

Along with his father, company founder and president Lewis Gaylord, and a supportive team of staff, Gaylord hopes to provide food for at least 20 families through the team's "Floors for Food" campaign.
