Former Federal Government Employee charged with Fraud over $5000 and Breach of trust by public officer
KITCHENER, ON, Dec. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Kitchener Detachment Commercial Crime Section has laid criminal charges against a former Correctional Service of Canada government employee.
The RCMP conducted an investigation which culminated with charges of Fraud over $5000.00 and Breach of trust by a public officer against William Emerson SAUER, aged 54, of Kitchener, Ontario. Police allege that SAUER misused his spending authority by purchasing items with his government credit card which were for his personal use. He also made purchases from a company that had a standing offer with the federal government, but were diverted for his personal use, during 2010 and 2011.
"The RCMP is mandated to investigate complaints of fraud and/or theft where the Government of Canada is the victim" stated S/Sgt Pierre Gagnon, the Detachment Commander of the Kitchener RCMP. He added, "we actively investigate offences involving the wrongful spending of Canadian's hard earned tax dollars."
SAUER is scheduled for his first court appearance in relation to these charges on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Kitchener courthouse.
