CFIB's Catherine Swift named one of Canada's most powerful women
TORONTO, Dec. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is pleased to note that its chair, Catherine Swift, has been named one of Canada's Most Powerful Women in the Trailblazers and Trendsetters category.
Now in its tenth year, the Women's Executive Network (WXN) will present Swift with her award at a special event tomorrow in Toronto. Each year, WXN celebrates the professional achievements of women across the country in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
"I can't think of anyone more deserving of this prestigious honour than Catherine Swift," said CFIB president Dan Kelly. "Catherine is an inspiration, not only to women everywhere, but to everyone who has had the opportunity to meet and work with her."
Throughout her career, Catherine has focused on advocating for positive public policy changes for all entrepreneurs and has put special focus on female small business owners. As CFIB president, Swift was one of the first women in Canada to head a major business association. In 2011, Swift was named President of the International Small Business Congress, a global body of small business organizations and advocacy groups.
Away from the office, Swift has given her time to a number of charities and is currently a board member of SOS Children's Villages Canada, an organization that helps orphaned children.
"Catherine is a role model for all of us in courage and perseverance," added Kelly. "On behalf of all her CFIB colleagues, I want to congratulate Catherine on this well deserved recognition."
As Canada's largest association of small- and medium-sized businesses, CFIB is Powered by Entrepreneurs™. Established in 1971, CFIB takes direction from more than 109,000 members in every sector nationwide, giving independent business a strong and influential voice at all levels of government and helping to grow the economy
