BC Fed Election Campaign Gathers Endorsements for Sinclair and Lanzinger

VANCOUVER, Nov. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Federation affiliates are lining up in support of Jim Sinclair and Irene Lanzinger's re-election at the upcoming BC Federation of Labour Convention, said supporters of the two leaders today.

"As we head towards convention, 25 unions affiliated to the B.C. Federation of Labour have announced their endorsement of Sinclair and Lanzinger," said Susan Spratt, Pacific Region Director for the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW).

The campaign organizers believe the latest news means that momentum continues to build for their campaign. "We are very pleased with the support that Jim and Irene have established so far," said Spratt. "With a week to go before the start of convention, this level of support is very encouraging," she added.

"The breadth of the endorsements at this point shows that union members support the work that Jim and Irene are doing for working people," said Brian Cochrane, Business Manager of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 115.

"It's clear from the endorsements that the Sinclair-Lanzinger campaign is resonating with rank and file delegates," added Darryl Walker, President of the BC Government and Services Employees' Union (BCGEU). "That's important because we want this convention to build unity across the labour movement in BC as we look forward to the next provincial election," Walker stressed.

"Jim and Irene have really worked hard to engage young workers and diverse communities," added Donisa Bernardo, Financial Secretary of the Hospital Employees' Union. "That hard work is reflected in the momentum they have built at this point," Bernardo stressed.
