Toronto Hydro continues to restore power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy - Update #6
TORONTO, Oct. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (Toronto Hydro) crews have reduced outages by about 85 per cent since its height of 60,000 without electricity in Toronto at 4 a.m. this morning. Currently, approximately 10,000 customers are without power. Equipment repairs that restore the greatest number of customers are being completed first.
In the downtown region, approximately 2,000 customers remain without power. To the east of the downtown core, approximately 4,000 are still affected and to the west, approximately 4,000 remain out.

Tips when experiencing a power outage:
- Unplug or turn off all appliances including TVs, computers and other sensitive equipment to avoid possible damage when the power resumes.
- Refrigerator and freezer doors should be kept open no longer than necessary.
- Most food in the fridge will last for about 24 hours, except dairy products that should be discarded after 6 or 8 hours. Food in a full freezer will stay frozen for 24-48 hours and 12-24 hours if partially filled.
