A discussion about cutting-edge issues in women's health

TORONTO, Oct. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - On October 22 Women's College Hospital (WCH) will present The POWER Study Forum: A discussion about cutting-edge issues in women's health.

The POWER Study is the most comprehensive study on women's health ever conducted in Ontario. The research provides the most current evidence on women's health status, their access to health services, the quality of the care they receive and the outcomes of that care.

The POWER Study Forum - aligned with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's recent launch of the Health System Research Fund - will highlight the importance of comparing sex and gender differences when conducting medical studies. A panel of renowned scientists from Women's College Research Institute will present their findings from the POWER Study, including:

  • Dr. Paula Rochon and Dr. Andrea Grunier - The implications of older women's health
  • Dr. Gillian Hawker - Health status and disability amongst women with osteoarthritis and osteoporosis
  • Dr. Lorraine Lipscombe - The impact of diabetes on women in Ontario
  • Dr. Sheila Dunn - Improving reproductive and genecological health in Ontario
  • With introduction by Dr. Janice Du Mont
