16-Year-Old Winnipeg Drummer Wins 4th Roland V-Drums Contest Junior Championship
RICHMOND, BC, Oct. 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Cameron Cordoviz, a 16-year-old drummer from Winnipeg, MB is the 4th Roland V-Drums Contest Junior Grand Prize Winner! The Roland V-Drums Contest invites drummers from across Canada to show off their drumming prowess on a Roland V-Drums kit, with the chance for the junior winner to receive not only a Roland TD-15K V-Drums kit, but the opportunity to play onstage at Montreal Drum Fest - 20th Anniversary Edition!
Auditions were held over a one week period in cities across Canada, with over 100 drummers auditioning for the Junior Division alone. Cameron Cordviz, who auditioned at Long & McQuade - Stafford Street location, was chosen the winner based on the originality, creativity and technical skill of his performance.
In the days leading up to the announcement of the Junior Champion, Cameron was on pins and needles; so much so that he asked his teacher for permission to leave the ringer of his cell phone on during class in case he received a call saying he had won! Inspired by the beats of Metal, Indie Rock, Latin, Jazz and Funk, Cameron Cordoviz started drumming at the age of eleven. Cameron continuously pushes himself to learn new skills and expand his knowledge of drumming. Cameron's long term aspirations include becoming a professional drummer, and he currently is a member of Winnipeg-based rock band Cranc.
In addition to winning a Roland TD-15K V-Drums kit, Cameron will also be performing onstage with one of his drumming idols! Roland is excited to announce this year's special guest performer Tony Royster Jr. Proficient in a number of styles including Jazz, Hip-Hop and Funk, acclaimed drummer Tony has performed onstage with many talented musicians including Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Drake, Nicki Minaj, John Mayer, Sting, Bono,T-Pain, Cold Play, The Foo Fighters, T.I., Eminem and many more. Tony had the honor of drumming for Jay-Z at the 2009 Presidential Inauguration for Barack Obama, saying "You can't imagine the feeling I had playing for the first African-American President with an African-American RAPPER!"
