Media Advisory - New Tax Bites Thousands of Ontario Tradespeople This Thanksgiving

TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - On the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Ontario College of Trades is set to announce details of its controversial new trades tax that will hit thousands of Ontario tradespeople.

The Ontario Construction Employers Coalition believes the College plans to announce a one-year tax exemption for employers.

"By shifting the tax burden for the College from industry employers to all Ontarians, the government plans to spread the tax burden for its costly new bureaucracy to blunt criticism," says Sean Reid, Chair of the Coalition. "The McGuinty government is playing another cynical and costly shell game with Ontario tradespeople, employers and taxpayers. We won't fall for it."

The Ontario Construction Employers Coalition will be available to respond directly to the College's announcement scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5.
