Extraordinary teachers spark students' great ideas!
October 5 is World Teachers' Day
TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2012 /CNW/ - Meet Jeana McCabe. She's the creative spark behind the successful Art School @ Marrocco at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic high school in Toronto.
Jeana turned traditional teaching on its head when she took her religious education students out of their seats and into the surrounding neighbourhood to capture on video social justice issues that mattered to them. Her creativity transformed an ordinary religious education class into a specialized arts and media program at the school, which today includes the highly successful student-run 'Just' Docs media festival.
There are thousands of teachers like Jeana. You probably know one - someone who inspired you to achieve more than you thought you could, listened when you needed someone to talk to. A memorable teacher who made learning fun.
"Our schools are filled with teachers who have an extraordinary impact on students," says Kevin O'Dwyer, president of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association. "This World Teachers' Day, I encourage everyone to take a moment and think about that special teacher who has been a positive influence."
On October 5, celebrate the teachers who spark great ideas in our schools!
