Media Advisory - Commissioner Cavoukian to unveil privacy action plan for organizations

New guidance document arises from investigation into massive privacy breach at Elections Ontario

HALIFAX, Sept. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner, Dr. Ann Cavoukian, will address a meeting of the Canadian Bar Association, Privacy Section, and unveil a new paper to provide organizations with concrete guidance on how to operationalize their privacy policy and have it embedded in their everyday practices.

The document entitled, A Policy is Not Enough: It Must be Reflected in Concrete Practices, builds on the proactive approach of Privacy by Design (PbD), developed by the Commissioner, and unanimously approved as an international framework for privacy protection in 2010. PbD seeks to embed privacy into the design specifications of information technologies, organizational practices and networked system architectures, to achieve the strongest protection possible.

Commissioner Cavoukian will be available for in-person and telephone interviews after her speech.
