Statement from Ontario NDP re: executive bonus ban
TORONTO, Aug. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - NDP MPP Gilles Bisson released the following statement regarding the NDP private member's bill to ban bonuses for executives:
"After nine long years of inaction, the McGuinty Liberals now claim they want to crack down on lucrative bonuses to public sector managers and executives. Unfortunately, instead of working with New Democrats to get real results they're raising misleading arguments in a desperate attempt to maintain the status quo.
"If the government had actually looked at the legislation tabled today they'd see that it covers managers and executives throughout the public sector, does not allow for raises, and does not undermine restraint measures already in place.
"We hope the government is actually serious about working with New Democrats to ban the lucrative bonuses they've been handing out for nearly a decade. Unfortunately, it seems like they're more interested in playing political games that help them win a majority and maintain a status quo that needs to change."
