Just 1 child inspires hundreds of teens to climb

City Councillor joins local group of kids for a worthy cause

VANCOUVER, Aug. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - More than 100 students from Vancouver will attempt to do the Grouse Grind on Wednesday, August 15. The event will be kicked off by Vancouver City Councillor George Affleck, who also plans to trek up the mountain with the group. By participating in this 3 km hike up Grouse Mountain, the group hopes to raise awareness for the challenges children living in developing countries face every day to access basic needs like food, water and education.

The event is a kick off for World Vision's "Just 1 Child" campaign in Vancouver that runs August 15-October 15. The focus of the campaign is to help Vancouver residents recognize that sponsoring just one child is all it takes to make a difference. There are almost 90,000 children overseas who are currently sponsored by Vancouver residents.

Through this campaign, World Vision hopes to find sponsors for 2,500 children. Most of those participating in the hike are from the World Vision Club at the University of British Columbia.
