-UPDATE 2- Roof of Algo Centre Mall Collapse
OPP Criminal Investigation Continues; Mall Remains Unsafe for Police/Public Access
ORILLIA, ON, July 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is requesting the public to continue to come forward with information regarding the June 23rd collapse of the roof of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake.
Members of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are asking anyone who believes they have information that may be important to this investigation to contact the dedicated information line at 1-855-677-4636 (1-855-OPP-INFO).
At this time, the OPP is working with engineers and other experts as well as the Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) to develop a plan to allow police investigators controlled access to the structure. When police access is permitted, investigators will work as diligently and as expeditiously as the scene allows, in order to gather all of the necessary information to support a successful investigation.
It's important to note that, until the police investigators are able to complete their examination of the mall structure, the building will remain sealed to preserve and protect the scene. Mall tenants and merchants and the public are reminded to refrain from trying to access the building for any property regardless of its location. Once the police examination and analysis has been completed, a plan will then be developed to address all requests from mall tenants and others to retrieve their property from the site.
OPP members from the East Algoma Detachment and OPP North East Region continue to ensure the site remains secure.
The OPP will continue to provide media updates with regard to this investigation as information becomes available.
