Darwin discovers extensive epithermal gold-silver mineralization at Suriloma, Peru
VANCOUVER, July 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Darwin Resources Corp ("Darwin" or "The Company") (TSXV:DAR) (OTCPK:DARWF): Dr. Graham Carman, President & CEO, is pleased to report geochemical results from surface sampling at the Company's recently acquired Suriloma gold-silver property in the La Libertad province of northern Peru.
Strong surface gold and silver grades occur over a 1 kilometre strike on
the La Puerta structure where channel samples include: 3.6 metres at
4.0 grams per tonne ("g/t") gold and 15 g/t silver; 3.0 metres at 4.8
g/t gold and 3 g/t silver, and 1.3 metres at 8.7 g/t gold and 106 g/t
At the Bosque area, 26 metres of intermittent channel sampling across a
50 metre-wide zone averages 1.4 g/t gold, associated with outcrops of
quartz stockwork and hydrothermal breccia;
Extensive soil cover limits outcrops, suggesting mineralized zones could
be wider than channel sampling indicates;
Low-impact surface sampling is continuing. Land access discussions are
underway with the community;
- There has been no drilling to date on the property. Planned programs of drilling and deep trenching - Q4 2012.
The 1,300 hectare Suriloma gold-silver project consolidates the recent Surupampa property acquisition where Darwin has an option to earn 100% by making cash payments of US$300,000 over a 3 year period ending June 2015, and the adjacent Colquiloma property of which Darwin is the 100% owner. The project is located 60 kilometres northeast of the city of Trujillo and 35 kilometres from Barrick's Lagunas Norte gold mine (9Moz gold) in the Department of La Libertad, northern Peru (Figure 1).
The principal gold-bearing structure at Suriloma is known as La Puerta, which is exposed in regular outcrops over a 2 kilometre WNW strike and a vertical interval of 300 metres. The highest surface gold-silver values occur on a 1 kilometre long trend that corresponds to the highest elevations between 3,500 - 3,650 metres above sea level. (Figure 2, Table 1). Channel samples include: 3.6 metres at 4.0 grams per tonne ("g/t") gold and 15 g/t silver; 3.0 metres at 4.8 g/t gold and 3 g/t silver, and 1.3 metres at 8.7 g/t gold and 106 g/t silver. Along the central 1 kilometre length of the La Puerta structure, 53 surface samples range from 0.005 g/t gold and 0.1 g/t silver to 8.7 g/t gold and 849 g/t silver, and average 2.4 g/t gold and 77 g/t silver.
At the Bosque area, the largest zone of outcrop on the La Puerta structure, abundant epithermal quartz veinlets or "stockwork" and hydrothermal breccia has been discovered over an area of approximately 100 metres by 50 metres (Figure 2). The Bosque area has returned consistent gold grades from channel sampling within a 50 metre zone which continues under thin soil cover and remains open. The weighted average grade for the channel samples is 1.4 g/t Au and 4 g/t Ag. The sampled area represents approximately 60% of the 50 metre-wide zone (Table 2). The average grade should be considered indicative only, as deep soil cover in between small outcrops prevented contiguous sampling. Deeper trenching to 1 metre depth or more will be required to determine the average gold grade across the full width of the structure.
Dr Graham Carman states: "The Darwin team is excited by the results received so far from the Suriloma project and although we are still in the early exploration phase, these maiden results are extremely encouraging. Gold grades from the initial outcrop and mine dump samples on the La Puerta structure consistently average at least 1.5 grams per tonne gold, with elevated to high silver. The mineralized stockwork zone at the Bosque discovery offers large tonnage potential as it appears to have significant width. There has been no drilling on the property in the past.
Darwin is committed to working closely with the local landowners and communities in the area, while advancing the project to drilling stage as soon as possible. We are hopeful that land access agreements will be in place to enable a drilling and trenching program during Q4 2012. Field work for a baseline environmental study will commence in July 2012 and low impact geochemical sampling and mapping is continuing. "
The qualified person, Dr Graham Carman, Darwin's President and CEO, and a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, has reviewed and verified the contents of this release. Channel samples were taken across continuous weathered outcrops using a pick and chisel. Each channel sample was typically 1 to 2 metres in length. Samples were analyzed by Certimin laboratories in Lima for gold and silver using fire assay with an atomic absorption finish (method G0108).
