(TORONTO, March 16th, 2004) – CHUM Television, producer and broadcaster of “The 2004 Genie Awards”, is pleased to announce Scott Thompson will Host “The Awards” Saturday, May 1st at 8:00pm ET on Citytv Toronto, Bravo!, Star!, and MusiMax and at 8:00pm PT on Citytv Vancouver. They will also air in Halifax at 9:00pm AT on ASN and at 6:00pm MT on Access in Alberta.

"We are thrilled to have Scott on board as host,” said Marcia Martin, Vice President, Production, CHUM Television and Executive Producer of The 2004 Genie Awards. “We’re putting together a Genie broadcast that not only celebrates a tremendous year in Canadian film, but is entertaining as well. Scott is wickedly funny, opinionated and irreverent … in other words, the perfect Genie host.”

Well-known to fans as a member of Canada's famed sketch comedy troupe “The Kids in the Hall” and for his stint on “The Larry Sanders Show”, Brampton native Scott Thompson is anything but your average comedic talent. Thompson began honing his skills on the Toronto comedy scene as a member of the improvisational group called the Love Cats. Scott's alternative and outlandish comedy has catapulted his career from the Toronto comedy circuit to television and the big screen.

During his time on “Kids In The Hall”, Thompson penned, along with fellow writer Paul Bellini, the infamous character Buddy Cole's autobiography "Buddy Babylon". The group ended their show after a five-year run, which aired on the CBC, CBS and HBO networks (and lives on in re-runs). Scott has also been seen as a series regular on the critically acclaimed HBO series "The Larry Sanders Show." He guest-starred in "More Tales from the City" for Showtime and played a recurring role on NBC's "Providence."

Thompson can be seen in the feature films "Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy", "Mickey Blue Eyes", "Super 8 1/2" and “Tart”.

In 2001, Scott toured with his new one-man show "The Lowest Show on Earth" and he wrote and co-produced the HBO documentary "Uncle Saddam." In April 2002 he joined his fellow “Kids in the Hall” cast members for a six week tour of North America.

Scott had a recurring role in the comedy series "An American in Canada." As well, Scott lends his voice to the Canadian animated series "Robo Roach" and recently has guest starred on an Emmy-Award winning episode of "The Simpsons."

In 2004, Scott was seen as Buddy Cole on Comedy Central's Special "Out on the Edge." He will also be appearing as Mark Hall’s lawyer in the upcoming made-for-TV movie, “The Prom Queen”.

“The 2004 Genie Awards” will air Saturday, May 1st at 8:00pm ET on Citytv Toronto, Bravo!, Star!, and MusiMax and at 8:00pm PT on Citytv Vancouver. They will also air in Halifax at 9:00pm AT on ASN and at 6:00pm MT on Access in Alberta.
