Conservative Platform disappoints on food safety

OTTAWA, Oct. 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The Prime Minister's decision to stay the
course on food safety is disappointing and surprising, according to the
Agriculture Union - PSAC, which represents Canada's food inspectors.
"By staying the course, Mr. Harper has chosen to cut food safety funding
and stand pat on the number of inspectors supervising the food industry," said
Agriculture Union President Bob Kingston.
With no new money for food safety in today's announcement, the
Conservatives are confirming they intend to proceed with $80 million in cuts
to CFIA spending as detailed in the most recent Treasury Board documents.
Conservative Party promises have not and will not increase either
inspection or number of inspectors in food production plants.
