Five Nova Scotians to Receive National Award

HALIFAX, Nov. 26 /CNW/ - The Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) has chosen five Nova Scotians to receive the Top 25 Canadian Award for their societal contributions. It was announced last week in Toronto by the national organization as part of its twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations.

They will be honored at a special ceremony during celebrations at the Ashburn Golf and Country Club, 3250 Joseph Howe Dr. Halifax, Tuesday, December 01/09, 4pm to 7pm. Also included will be a silent auction and light refreshments.

Her Honour the Honourable Mayann E. Francis, O.N, S., DHomL, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, will be in attendance at 5pm to present the awards to: Redvers Cainey (Halifax), Keith Cameron (Halifax), Riet Vink (Halifax), Carol Welch (Brier Island), and Charlotte Wilson-Hammond (Clam Harbour).

CARP received nominations nationally between July and October from members, Zoomer magazine readers and the general public. The awards are for persons who have made a difference in the lives of Canadians as they age. Not for the rich and famous, but rather to recognize, identify and pay tribute to the every-day heroes who, through their work or volunteer actions, or other forms of service, have contributed to the quality of life of Canadians as they age.
