Porter Airlines pilot taken ill during flight, First Officer lands aircraft in Halifax

Statement by Robert Deluce, President and CEO, Porter Airlines

TORONTO, Nov. 14 /CNW/ - "At approximately 10:10 a.m. (Atlantic Standard Time) the captain of Porter Airlines flight 243, from Halifax to St. John's, NL, fell ill. The co pilot took control and returned the aircraft to Robert Stanfield Airport in Halifax, landing without event. The captain briefly lost consciousness in flight but walked off the aircraft to a waiting ambulance and is receiving medical attention. Passengers have departed for St. John's with a replacement crew. The original crew will be returning to its Toronto base of operations. The condition of the captain is not known at this time and our thoughts are with the pilot and his family."
